The SuperSpeech & Language Connection

Speech/Language/Social Communication

Language 'N Motion

New for 2010!

A functional play based program where movement facilitates social interaction.

Jointly run by an Occupational Therapist and Speech & Language Pathologist, this unique program is designed to address the motor planning and self regulatory needs of children while facilitating overall language development. In a relaxed, safe and motivating environment, Language ‘n Motion focuses on the development and improvement of the following skills:

  • Self Regulation
  • Praxis/Motor Planning
  • Imitation of Movement
  • Social Interaction/Reciprocal Play
  • Receptive and Expressive Language
  • Balance/Rhythmic Movement
  • Muscle Strength and Coordination
  • Direction following and Transitions
  • Visual Perception/Perceptual Motor Skills
  • Balance
  • Problem Solving/executive functioning/organization

Language ‘n Motion is an 8 week program that meets weekly for 1.5 hours. Children receive direct instruction during that time from both an OT and SLP, as well as help from an assistant. Groups are formed based on the individual strengths, “stretches” and age of each child. Appropriate for children ages 3-18. Maximum 6 children per group.

Specific goals are established at the beginning of each program and parents are provided with a progress summary at the end of the 8-week session. Your child's therapy is a team approach between therapists and families therefore, each 90 minute session includes a 15 minute open consultation with parents to discuss the implementation/adjustment and progress of the home carry-over programs we provide you with.
